Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, RIVANNA is a privately held medical technology company that is commercializing its initial product, Accuro, an epidural guidance device designed to improve the success of epidural and spinal anesthesia.
This proprietary and versatile imaging device is FDA 510(k)-cleared for spinal anesthesia guidance and a variety of additional imaging applications, such as diagnostic imaging of musculoskeletal and abdominal anatomies.
RIVANNA was founded by Will Mauldin, Ph.D., and Kevin Owen, Ph.D., inventors of the company’s proprietary Accuro platform, while they were Ph.D. students at the University of Virginia. Early development of the technology was made based upon collaborations between the prestigious UVa School of Medicine and Department of Biomedical Engineering. Development was funded in large part through the Wallace H. Coulter translational research partnership.
