What are the latest happenings in the biotech industry and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as in the biotech ecosystem in and around Charlottesville?

Come find out on Thursday, Oct. 13 when the University of Virginia Licensing & Ventures Group and CvilleBioHub will be hosting the BioDiscovery Summit from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Irving Theater, located in the CODE Building at 225 W. Water Street (on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall).

The event will feature remarks from CvilleBioHub Entrepreneur in Residence Nikki Hastings, UVA LVG Executive Director Richard W. Chylla and UVA LVG Seed Fund Managing Director Bob Creeden; flash talks from entrepreneurs; updates from companies in CvilleBioHub’s ecosystem; a conversation with Derrick Brent, the Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office; and a keynote presentation from Dr. Marc Hedrick, President and CEO of PLUS THERAPEUTICS, Inc.

In a session moderated by Focused Ultrasound Foundation CTO Rick Hamilton, Brent will discuss the biggest challenges facing the USPTO when it comes to reviewing patent applications, what companies can expect from the filing and prosecution process, ways applicants can avoid patent ineligibility rejections and a host of other topics.

The evening will be capped by a social that will include food, beverages and the chance to network with members of the innovation community.

The cost for a general admission ticket is $50; students are $15. Space is limited. To register for the event or for more information, click here.
