Interested in joining the UVA Licensing & Ventures Group?

The Licensing & Ventures Group (LVG) is the intellectual property management and innovation commercialization organization for the University of Virginia research enterprise.

Founded in 1977 as a 501(c)(3) UVA-associated organization, its mission is to maximize the intellectual, societal, and economic impact of UVA discoveries via commercialization to enrich and improve lives for the University, the Commonwealth, and the world. In the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2021, LVG solicited and/or received 172 invention disclosures, executed a record 92 commercial transactions, and launched four new ventures.

Managed by the organization, the $10MM LVG Seed Fund is uniquely positioned to launch and support new ventures emerging from the UVA research portfolio. The investment team works closely with the licensing professionals to identify opportunities, and the Fund is governed by an oversight committee comprised of leaders in early-stage investing and startup development who are all UVA alumni. In the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2021, the LVG Seed Fund invested $645K and leveraged $6MM from syndicate partners.
