Who We Are

The Licensing & Ventures Group is the University of Virginia intellectual property management and innovation commercialization organization for UVA’s research portfolio. Founded in 1977 as a 501(c)(3) UVA affiliated foundation, UVA LVG receives ~200 invention disclosures, executes ~80 commercial transactions, and launches 5-7 new companies each year. During the 2016 fiscal year, UVA LVG issued 67 patents in the US and abroad.

What We Do

Invention Disclosure Facilitation
LVG works with UVA researchers, faculty, staff and students to provide advice about the technology transfer process during research activities and assists with invention disclosures.
The LVG legal team offers guidance in planning an effective patent, copyright, or trademark strategy and handles all implementation details during the protection stage.
The LVG licensing team assists in technical and market assessments while providing high levels of customer service when marketing UVA technologies to industry partners. 
New Ventures
LVG provides proactive assistance in assessing potential opportunities to form a new venture based on UVA technology and encourages this interaction during the early invention disclosure process.
